Immigration Policy Briefing Dinner

The Bay Area Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (BALEO) is honored to partner with Stanford University’s Institute for Advancing Just Societies to host a Policy Briefing Dinner on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

The event will take place at Stanford University and feature Jennifer Chacon, a preeminent legal scholar and Professor of Law and Associate Dean at Stanford Law School.

This timely conversation will explore the evolving landscape of immigration policy—its impact on communities, local economies, and governance

BALEO Civic Excellence Award Honoree: Arturo Vargas

The Board of Directors of the Bay Area Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (BALEO) will be honoring Arturo Vargas with the BALEO Civic Excellence Award at the 2026 BALEO Policy Briefing Dinner at Stanford University.

This award represents BALEO’s highest recognition of sustained dedication to advancing civic engagement and institutional leadership. It is presented to an individual whose excellence in civic leadership has strengthened Latino participation and democratic inclusion.

As Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund, Mr. Vargas has devoted his career to expanding Latino representation and empowering communities to fully participate in American democracy. His leadership has inspired generations of public servants and advocates across the nation.

A proud Stanford alumnus, Mr. Vargas’s recognition at this year’s Policy Briefing is a fitting tribute to his enduring impact and lifelong commitment to civic excellence.
